Video: A great way to use breast compressions

It’s really common for a new baby to fall asleep very easily. Now there is nothing wrong with a baby sleeping whilst they are feeding but we do want them actively feeding whilst they are at your breasts. When a baby is feeding from you they will take short pauses to swallow, rest and regulate their breathing. This is normal. But, if the pauses get a little longer then I recommend that you stimulate your baby to continue to feed. In some cases all thats needed is a little tickle or a nudge and they will actively resume feeding. But, I usually find the most effective way of getting a baby to continue their feed is to gently compress your breast.

You can watch my video below for guidance on how to use breast compressions. For more videos and guidance on breastfeeding you can check out my online breastfeeding preparation course

If you want to understand more about the patterns of sucking and swallowing for a breastfeed then you can check out my blog separate post. I also cover this topic in my online breastfeeding course.
