Lisa Chandler

I am a private infant feeding practitioner based in Putney in South West London. Professionally I am a registered midwife and certified breastfeeding specialist. Personally I am a mum to two young children who bring joy and challenges every day!

I am registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, a member of the Royal College of Midwives and Royal College of Nursing, DBS certified and fully insured.

My Philosophy

The miracle of pregnancy and birth is a truly wonderful process to observe. As a registered midwife I have been privileged to support many families in their journey to parenthood. We have been having babies for thousands of years but in today’s world of information we increasingly lack trust in our bodies’ abilities and our intuition. In many cases birth now takes place away from the home and new parents may have had limited experience of caring for a newborn as we are increasingly living further from our extended families. There is of course a reliance on health professionals and the web to provide information regarding pregnancy, birthing and caring for a baby. At a time when the NHS is under massive pressures health professionals may be more difficult to access and Dr. Google can’t always be trusted.

I set up Bump, Birth & Boobs as a way to reach expecting and new parents and provide them with support. My aim is to provide you with individualised, evidence based care to enable your family to thrive.

My Training

I completed my training to become a midwife in 2016 and have worked in NHS community midwifery as well as in hospitals in antenatal, birthing and postnatal areas. I have undertaken extensive additional lactation specific education in order to provide enhanced infant feeding services. I routinely attend training courses as part of my continued professional development.

My Family

As a midwife, I have an innate belief that pregnancy and birth are normal life events. That said, personally I found pregnancy very challenging. I struggled with fatigue in both my pregnancies and significant pain during my pregnancy with my daughter.

My first baby, my son, was a planned home birth but after a relatively easy labour I was simply unable to birth him. I therefore transferred into hospital where a fabulous team enabled my son to be born by forceps. He was at best unimpressed with this brand new world he found himself in and the initial few days of my son’s life were incredibly challenging. He overcame these hurdles and we brought him home on Mother’s Day.

Four years later my daughter was born, rather hastily, with the support of an amazing doula and home birth midwifery team. My daughter’s birth proved to be incredibly healing and enabled me to put to rest some of the lingering emotions surrounding my son’s birth and early days of life.

Both my babies were breastfed and this worked well for my family. It certainly wasn’t without its challenges but I felt very grateful for the years of knowledge I had to draw upon when trying to navigate my own breastfeeding journey.

We are now complete as a family of four. Before I had children I had no idea who I was going to be as a mother but they have shown me joy and love that I didn’t know was possible. Of course there are days when I have a massive parenting fail but my children will forever be my proudest achievement.
